Who we are

Meet our Founder

Founded by Jesus R. Peña, RN, BSN, CLT, the Great Effort Diabetic Initiative was created to educate, empower, prevent, and help control the growing diabetes epidemic impacting our communities and loved ones.

The most alarming reality is not only the rising rates of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), dialysis, and diabetes-related amputations, but also the increasing number of children—at elementary school age—showing early warning signs such as positive screenings for acanthosis nigricans.

As a registered nurse, Jesus Peña feels a deep responsibility to take action. Through education, early intervention, and community-based support, the Great Effort Diabetic Initiative is committed to changing these outcomes and improving lives over the next seven years.
